Funding options explained

Small Change Projects

The Medway Hospital Charity provides money for projects that will benefit patient care and/or staff experience. Up to £2,000 can be provided to each small change project. Applications for funding can be made via a downloadable application form which is assessed internally by the Medway Innovation Institute. Once you’ve made an application, you can expect to hear from us in 48 hours.

Innovative Pilots

If you are able to demonstrate that an idea is evidence-based and offers potential benefit to the Trust, the Medway Innovation Institute can provide rapid seed funding for you. Up to £10,000 is available via a streamlined bidding process to allow you to pilot a ‘minimum viable product’ or prototype of your idea on a small-scale, to demonstrate the measurable impact of your work. Applications for funding are made via a downloadable application form. These will be initially reviewed by the Institute within 48 hours. You will then be invited to present a 5-minute pitch followed by a short Q&A – you will be provided with more details on this after your application has been reviewed. The pitch will then be approved by the Medway Innovation Institute’s Funding Panel.

Exceptional Circumstances

If you believe your project will require more than £10,000 you will be required to write a PID/Business Case. Please email the Institute directly to discuss options moving forward.

Research Funding

The Institute has access to additional funding and grants for research via the Research & Innovation (R&I) department. To find out more or receive an application form, please contact Dr Edyta McCallum, Head of Research & Innovation (R&I) at edyta.mccallum@nhs.net.

Chief Executive’s Scholarship for Brilliance

The Medway Hospital Charity is inviting applications for its £10,000 Scholarship for Brilliance, which will be awarded by Medway NHS Foundation Trust’s Chief Executive, James Devine. The Scholarship celebrates excellence and sustainable innovation within the workforce by supporting an exceptional candidate’s (or multiple candidates’) learning and development.

Applications are welcome from any member of staff employed by the Trust and the successful recipient will be expected to use their training to influence and embed new practices within the Trust. It’s an opportunity for outstanding candidates to bid for their own bespoke training programme. Applications are reviewed annually in the summer and winners are announced by the CEO at the Trust’s Annual Members‘ Meeting.
